MAJOR CHANGES TO THE ORGANISATION – RECAP

Royal British Legion Scotland have embarked on a consultation with all Branches on changes that are necessary to combat the continuing decline in members and pressure on the finances. The organisation is experiencing an annual 6 figure deficit. If this is not arrested, the RBLS will be out of business in 5 to 6 years time and therefore it cannot be allowed to continue.

A Strategic Transformation Committee was  formed by the National Board of Trustees and they put forward a detailed Options paper that looked at the status quo, raising funds including membership, a merger, changes to the Areas and changes to Head Office. The solutions to the problems will unsurprisingly be a mixture of these options. This is  not tinkering around the edges; these are some major changes included.

Head office conducted a consultation, which we responded to at Thurso having taken the input received from our members. The consultation is now closed.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The Strategic Transformation Committee (STC) collated all Branches responses and have analysed the data. This document can be found here. It will be discussed at a Special Conference to be held in the Legion in Prestonpans on 28 September. The output from that conference will be a clear steer for the STC to progress detailed work on one way forward, producing motions for members to vote on in 2025 before the next AGM.
